In Helheim is a process-based and collaborative project between a group of artists, employing the epic cycle of poems Haugtussa (1895) by Arne Garborg as a catalyst for discourse and as a strategy for making new works.

This appropriative method allows us to engage in an open exploration of the subjects contained within Haugtussa – psychology, the collective unconscious, sexual transcendence, animism and magic – and enables us to approach them in a multi-faceted manner which creates a discoursive space between these approaches.

Our ongoing research is manifested through a series of three events, the first of which will take place at Normanns Projectspace on Friday May 25th. During this first event, we will orchestrate a combination of performance, objects and videos in the space, providing a snapshot of a process still going on.

The project was supported by Arts Council Norway.
